Decentralization of health system structure and management has been and continues to be a key issue for many countries in the achievement of health for all, and development of primary health care in Kenya.

Although devolved units have put efforts to transform healthcare, many still face numerous challenges. It is on this backdrop that Equip Africa Institute in collaboration with Key Healthcare stakeholders in Denmark in June 2016. The Danish devolved Healthcare system has been hailed globally as world-class master plan due to its effectiveness.

On June 8th -15th, top healthcare decision makers from Kenya and the East African region participated in a benchmarking workshop on Devolved Healthcare. The delegates got a rare chance to interact with scholars, legislatures, implementers, beneficiaries among other actors in the innovative Danish Healthcare system and witness firsthand how it works and its impact on the people.

The workshop sought to achieve the following objectives;

1.         To provide County health managers to learn transferable ideas and skills for transforming their health services at their County Governments

2.         To strengthen the capacity of the delegates to successfully implement devolved healthcare management and also have an impact on the devolved health system.

3.         To grant delegates an opportunity to network with both the private sector for the purpose of fostering partnerships in delivery of healthcare services in their County Governments.

4.         To expose delegates to current and emerging trends in world class healthcare management globally

The workshop attracted participants from both the public and private sector all seeking to improve healthcare among their people. They were enlightened on the historical background of Danish Healthcare Excellence, its key milestones and challenges as well as innovation and expertise in the system.

Delegates were wowed to know that they can replicate and improve on the same model in Kenya after covering topics on; the  Role of Leadership & Good Governance, Devolved Healthcare Financing , Devolved Healthcare Infrastructure, Medical Procurement: Cost Management for Devolved Healthcare, Human Resources for Devolved Health Sector , PPP-Public Private Partnerships in Healthcare for County Government, Danish Funding Options available for County Healthcare and Current & Emerging Issues in Health Care.
